I was inspired to create Mijamaz Adaptive Pajama when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. The grim diagnosis led to frequent hospital admissions. On numerous occasions when I visited my mom, her frail body was exposed and cold - even the most private parts of her body. Of course, she was wearing the ill-fitting one size fits all backless hospital gowns.
Like mom, patients continue to lie in hospital beds cold and scantily clothed. Reality is, some patients are too weak to cover their nakedness, others are experiencing too much pain to care, while others lack the mental awareness that their body privacy is compromised. Sadly, all three scenarios were my mom's reality throughout the various stages of her illness.
Most medical professionals have become so accustomed to seeing patients naked that it rarely occur to them how embarrassed, and demoralized patients must feel when their bodies are repeatedly exposed to virtual strangers.
Studies found that when patients body privacy is repeatedly compromised, they often experience emotional distress, and a weakened immune system. Also, compromised body privacy coupled with other negative experiences in hospital, could put you at risk for new health challenges that could lead to re-hospitalization, soon after discharge. This is especially true of the elderly.
As a Nurse, I mindfully designed Mijamaz, a unisex adaptive pajama, to protect your body privacy while accommodating the array of medical lines and appliances often worn by patients in care settings.
I designed Mijamaz to be cozy and attractive enough to transition seamlessly from home to hospital, and from hospital to home when appropriate.
While hospitals do an excellent job protecting your informational privacy, they are yet to offer you a garment that protects your body privacy. A garment that allows caregivers to administer care and treatment, without unduly exposing your body and compromising your dignity.
Mijamaz gives you and caregivers the best of both worlds by offering a traditional looking pajama that is functional, dignified and easily removed in the event of a medical emergency.
Mijamaz will not compromise your care and will accommodate the array of medical lines and appliances worn by patients in hospital, and other care settings.
